What's God doing on Twitter?

If such a question makes any sense at all, well, it was about time he showed up. Not really show up - up, as there are tens of Tweeter users that were previously using his name. But make a blast out of tweeting, expecting not holiness, but selling a book. Yes, God on Twitter is David Javerbaum, the actor, comedian and former producer of the Daily Show, writer of a couple God subject related books.

His presence is a classic example on how social media can market a great, but previously used idea. That's cause there are other Gods on Twitter and even Facebook.

“Knock it off down there!” “I know everything. How do I do it? I have no idea”, “Your prayers are my spam”, are just some of his most recent tweets. Since he joined Twitter, over 250 000 followers are watching his 7499 posts, making sure that they go along with his greater plan.

So what does God's presence on social media show us now? Well, nothing, I guess, except for the fact that it can make us laugh as his tweets can be a good late afternoon read. No, seriously, many marketers are forced to sell a good, but previously used idea. Not to mention those who are struggling towards reaching 1000 followers. Do you need to be God to make it on SM?

I'll tell you what I've noticed, reading through the rules of Twitter content management and smiling at God's stated plans for Thanksgiving:

1. The page is credible

And it is, with God's portrait in the main, his long white hair and meditative grin catching your attention. Everything is thought to look neat and organized, respecting the general idea. And a blue sky in the background.

2. Main purpose up-front

Which, in his case, is easy to notice. Re-tweeting. Not following or commenting but re-tweeting. Javerbaum makes his tweets funny so that users can share them with others, thus advertising his Tweeter page and through it, his real selling books page.

3. Making a difference

From the other online Gods which are way too serious, posting heart warming pictures and yes, maybe not selling anything. Or being simply not funny enough. This character not only relates to the product being advertised but it is also entertaining and fun.

4. And making a difference again

Through good ideas : following a celebrity, in this case. Which is double funny, that being Justin Bieber. And writing some more quality tweets. For, at the end of the day, the content is what makes you stand out from the other divinities. What you publish is who you are, no matter how you're called

5. Giving direction

Being so realistic, Tweet of God invites users to find out who he really is. And not hiding at all behind the mask. Directing to his site is a good idea for Javerbaum, for this is the place from which the products are bought. I went there myself.

Haven't you noticed, I like God's approach on tweeting. I wonder how many books has he sold, or if he will ever go viral.
